Mary J. Blige has always been one of my favorite R & B singers, and with eight multi-platinum albums, nine Grammy Awards (plus a staggering 31 nominations), a 2012 Golden Globe nomination, and four American Music Awards, Mary J Blige is now a global superstar. I recently got a chance to review her newest album and it is a stripped down version of the voice that we all recognize.
This album sounds different and yet, has that familiar feeling. It seems old and new, at the same time. Blige spent a month in London, writing and the result has the same honesty about life that we have come to expect from this amazing talent - but, it is also full of open and uplifting messages. You can be down, but you don't have to stay down.
The second track, "Doubt," has an amazing message about surpassing someone's expectations - yet, at what cost? We truly see ourselves, through others' eyes.
"When You're Gone" and "Long Hard Look" stress that the grass isn't always greener, on the other side.
I love that "Pick Me Up" shows hope and that there is a better future, ahead.
My favorite, lyrically, is "Worth My Time." This song tells the story of a relationship, where you know it is worth the fight and you just have to get over that hump. All relationships hit rocky spots - the strong survive it. We all want to be that couple that survives.

#TheLondonSessions and #O2O
I participated in the Mary J Blige The London Sessions album review program as a member of One2One Network. I was provided a free album to review but all opinions are my own.
